The Grade 5/6 class was able to learn about food production last week on our field trip. Students were able to crush canola seeds to get oil and make their own flour from wheat.

Students were able to participate in an activity that showed how farmers manage their money and all the extra things they need to do besides planting and harvesting their crops.
Students were given the chance to see how large scale factory farms raise their animals for food production.

We discussed the types of nutrients found in soil and types of fertilizers that are put on the fields.
A beekeeper spoke with students about how important bees are in food production and the role they play.

Students earned tickets throughout the day for participating. They were able to bid on cookies in a lunch hour auction.
